A case of suspected 鉤端螺旋體病(Leptospirosis )is now being investigated for a man who went to streams (石澗) nearly every week.

Leptospirosis is caused by an infectious organism called Leptospira, which is usually present in the urine of infected wild animals. Streams, rivers, standing water and moist soil can be contaminated with urine from the infected animals. When adventurer passes the contaminated region, this organism can have the chance to penetrate the skin, to the blood and then spread to all parts of the body. The infected person normally will run a fever and have other discomfort (such as hypotension, confusion, vomiting blood, joint/muscle pain, liver and kidney problem). Without proper treatment, it can cause serious problems which in turn leads to death.
