BB, enjoy your morning hiking. It's safe and you can enjoy the view.
For Sunday morning, you don't have to take taxi from Sai Kung, as it's more expensive and no free parking.
You can first try 北潭涌. If you're unlucky, then go back to Tai Mong Tsai (or somewhere between 北潭涌 & Tai Mong Tsai).
Sai Kung Taxi - 23830168
Remember - mobile phone doesn't work there. Call your friends once you've get on the taxi.

Of course yes. You can also park in Pak Tam Chung if you're early enough (i.e. before 9am).

BB, my additional comments are
1. Since you have never been there, although the trail is not difficult, it is not that straight forward (and it is in the evening). You still need to find the right paths. e.g. once you get off the taxi, you'll find 3 paths, do you know which is the correct one ?
2. Do you have map and compass ?
3. Almost all mobile phones do not work at 西灣亭. Don't assume you can get help by your mobile.
4. It is not easy to get a taxi from 北潭涌. If you really go, you should take taxi from Sai Kung.
My recommendation is :
Don't go la. But if you're so eager to go due to whatever reason, ask 你班朋友 to pick you up at
西灣亭. Call them at Sai Kung once you get on the taxi.
Take care la.

Why don't you go there earlier?
Even in Sai Kung Town, I'm afraid that no taxi driver is willing to take you to 西灣亭 at 12:00 a.m.

Check the website www.kmb.com.hk
I think you need to get off two bus stops after the 麥理浩夫人渡假村
Then you cross the road and I bet you will see the entrance of the MACLEHOSE Trail. Then you can check the map over there!
Don't worry you won't get lose over there!

get off at pak tam au
u can tell bus driver to stop at pak tam au.
when u get off, look for a pavillion at the other side of the road. adjacent to the pavillion, u will find a sign showing the direction to chek king.
i dun think its appropriate for us to give u a detail instruction here, pls take a map with you and follow the road sign (both general purpose and the mileage post of maclehose trail) they r well desiged and erected.

There are many routes. See below.
If you start from 西灣亭 , take a minibus from Sai Kung and get off at the last stop. Taking a taxi is even easier.
If you start from 北潭涌 (not recommended when it's too hot), get off at the bus stop immediately after the 北潭涌 terminus.
If you start from 北潭坳 , just tell the bus driver you want to stop there. A lot of people get off there as well.
