No, we can see Venus (金星) at night by naked eye. It is the No.3 bright object in the sky. It's brightness is something like minus four (-4) level. It can even make your shadow in complete darkness. Of course its most bright time is at before 黎明 and early night. It is certainly not a dark point.
In case of Mercury (水星), it might be correct.

Venus and Mercury are inner planets but they are not always between the Sun and Earth (not always along the same line at least). When Mercury is directly between the Sun and Earth, it can become a dark dot on surface of Sun but it is not easy (and potentially dangerous) to observe this unless with special sun-observing telescope.
However, Venus or Mercury will (for certain period) be at an angle from the sun and then it will become a bright star appearing after sunset or before sunrise (eastern sky in morning, or western sky in evening). The greatest possible angle between Mercury and Sun is smaller than Venus, so Mercury will be lower in the sky than Venus, even at the greatest angle (called 大距).
